What is the name of your state? ME
Lease states appliances should be left in good condition, fridge defrosted if not frost free.
Fridge died.
Luckily I have a stand alone freezer in the basement that is mine.
I left a message saying that I can buy my own fridge but I need to take it with me when I leave or they can fix/replace ours.
How long do I wait for an answer? I need a fridge eventually but I don't want to buy one and then have them sell the house thinking the fridge goes with it when we bought it.
Like I said, I have a freezer but if I didn't I would be in big trouble.

If you are a landlord, live and learn, make arrangements for your property PLEASE. This person was young and in good health.

I am a LL and I do provide the appliances. Put this in writing to your LL, then I would call your LL AGAIN. Maybe they didn't get the first message, you nenver know.

I just had a refrigerator go, and the tenant witheld $100.00 for a used rrefrigerator purchase and I never got the frige! Since I had been out of town for several months I just assumed the frige was in. This was in Feb. Then when I went to collect back rent she complained about the frige, obvipusly I found out that ther was NO frige purchase and they kept my money. So on court day I did receive the judgement for the frige. I know it was my own fault. And to think. . . I have been a LL for 30 years. And NO I do NOT want to do it anymore. I have had enough.

I re-read your post and wonderd why you didn't call a repairman first?

Great, except for if you had looked at OP's post history, or a little farther down the forum, you would see that his LL is DEAD.

Hence the complications.

They would have absolutely no justification to try to keep a fridge that you purchased for yourself. I would suggest you do that but don't get rid of the broken one. Keep it so that they will be able to see that it died from normal use and not your negligence; let the owner decide whether to try to repair or dispose of it.

We called Whirlpool and did what they told us, it didn't work. It is a 20 yr old fridge and we didn't think it was a good decision to have someone come and try to repair it. We would totally leave it, move it to the basement until we are told to leave.
I don't want him selling the place and a case where we are "this is ours and this is ours etc.." and they don't know. We would obviously have the receipts, I just wanted to make sure that if we bought an appliance they can't claim it since we rent.
We also feel for the family and understand it will take them time legally to change properties over, figure out what they are going to do and we are willing to deal with that but we also need to have necessary items to live and we don't want to be screwed.

Problem solved then.

I apologize for not readin your post better. But it looks to me like you have already solved your problem. Keep your receipt and when you move take your frige with you.
