Help. I have two issues, but this one belongs here. I am prescribed Xanax .5 two times a day and have been for years. I also had a 1.0 just one pill in my prescribed container.

My doctor was away on vacation, so a friend who is prescribed them also, gave me one to hold me over til I could have the doctor call in my prescription. You can't just stop taking this medication.

So my question is, if I am already prescribed a total of 1.0 a day and if you break the one that was 1.0 in half, can they charge me with pos. of a controlled substance. It is the same prescribed amount from my doctor?

Thanks, byrd42

It depends how your ligitimate prescription was dispensed. Was it dispensed in .5mg tablets or 1mg tablets?

The fact is you had some on elses medication. Your firend can also be in trouble for giving you a controlled substance.

BTW...you CAN stop taking the medication with the help of your Physician.

lealea,
It is dispensed in .5mg, but I take them twice a day. I had them at 1mg prior, but asked my doctor to make them .5 cause sometimes I take less if I am feeling ok or tired to begin with. I have diabeties and now blood pressure problems. Yes I know my friend could get in trouble but I would not tell them who gave me it. Anyway, I did get around to getting hold of my doctors answering service and got it called into the Pharmacy, so I never took it.

P.S. They are also charging me with driving under the influence of a Controlled Substance? How can they do that?

You are not supposed to drive when you take a narcotic mediation. Isn't there a label on your prescription bottle that states so?

Doesn't matter that you didn't take that particular pill. You were in possession of it.

Why were you pulled over?

Well I am to take it twice a day. I take my med. in the morning and when I get home.

The label says "Use Care when operating a car or dangerous machinery".

Wasn't pulled over, but had driven down the road and parked to get my boyfriends father of 88 yrs. who was being evicted from his home in 100 degree weather. I am the only one that has a license. One of the deputies told an officer that my eyes were red and I appeared to be in a stuper. Well I was crying and upset for this man whom had no where to go.

But I do appreciate your med. advice. I have no record and nor have I my entire life. Just trying to see if I can get around this charge????
