I made an online purchase using my credit card approximately 6 months ago with no problem. Today, I received an email from the merchant stating that they failed to charge enough sales tax on that transaction, so they are going to charge my credit card $10.50 now. Is that legal? I live in the state of Florida.

Thank you for your assistance,

Did it ask you to reenter your credit card information so they could do this? If so it is probably a scam. Call them and ask. Do not use any link in the email or enter any of your information on it.

Thank you for your replies

The email was from Leapfrog.com. It is interesting that someone else got a similar email. There was no link in my message in case I had any questions, and there was no request for my credit card information. When I tried to reply to the email, the message was returned as undeliverable.

I checked to see if any charges had been added to my credit card, and sure enough, $10.50 had been added to the card that I used to make the purchase 6 months ago. I think this is a horrible way to conduct business, and I intend to dispute that charge when I get my credit card bill. I don't know how the credit card company will deal with the issue but I hope they will agree with me and remove the charge.

If anyone has any other thoughts about how to address this issue, I would be very grateful for your suggestions.

Back to the original question

Hi again,
Could someone please let me know if it is LEGAL for Leapfrog.com to add those charges to my credit card without my permission 6 months after the completion of the transaction.

Thank you, justice warrior
