I recently sold my home and the home I was to lease fell into foreclosure...without the landlord telling me. So, I was in need of a place asap.
My friend just evicted her tenant the month prior and was remodeling the home. It was about 80% complete when she offered me to stay there.
We agreed to 2k a month (everything included) starting Feb 1. However I moved in three weeks prior. During the three weeks, we had only one bathroom, no dishwasher and the stove was broke.
Most of this was fixed before mid Feb. As promised I paid her $2K (little late, end of Feb) for rent.
Five days after she cashed the check, she sent me an email demanding that I pay her $500 a week from the day I moved in and the entire next months rent.
This was a shock. We only agreed to the 2K a month.
I politely sent her a response and told her I would be moving out in two weeks. And I did.
She then sent me a demand letter for $4500 less the $50 (she never paid the phone bill).
I have nothing with her in writing only the 2k verbal, which she had also told mutual friends the price was only 2K.
I have refused to pay her anything, including the last two weeks.
And she is a licensed Realtor.
Can she take me to court? It's been over three months and I haven't heard anything.
