What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IL, insurance company based out of IN.

I'm not going to bull**** any of you reading my topic, I was doing 60 in a 45 in an Illinois town who probably makes a good amount of money off these damn traffic tickets, and was caught and issued a ticket. I gave the officer my license and registration and was back on the road ten minutes later. I believe it might be a waste of my time to appear in court and dispute a $75 ticket; however, I am concerned that paying the fine rather than making an appearance in court will admit guilt, causing me to incur surcharge points thus increasing my insurance premium. I have read that it may be worthwhile to dispute the ticket no matter how evident it is that I was breaking the law.

Are points incurred for first minor motor vehicle violations in IL?
If I go to court and contest the ticket, will this do anything positive for my plight?

FTR, I'm 22, vehicle is a Pontiac Solstice, and this is my first ticket ever. I don't care about the fine, I do care about my insurance premiums.

I'm sure some of the regulars will be here soon with 'witty' one-liners about my situation, however I do thank those of you who give me solid advice!

You are correct.

Talk to the prosecutor and see if they do plea bargains there.

You're probably eligible for supervision. Here you admit guilt, but the judge defers entering a judgement for some period and if you stay clean the charge is dismissed.

**A: what is your reason for going that fast?

What difference does it make. Having a good reason to speed does not entitle a person to violate the law in the eyes of the court.

"My wife is in labor and really needs the comfort of her husband..."

So is it just a matter of making my appearance and asking the judge to place me on court supervision? Will this require me taking a silly driving class or does it always depend on the circumstances of each individual case?

Thanks again.
