What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? FL

I recently had damage to my home after TS Fay made it's way thru North Florida. I lost about 10 panels of a stockade privacy fence and had numerous shingles damaged on the roof, many of which are now in my back yard. I contacted my agent to find out if the missing shingles would be covered by replacing the roof or just repairing them, but he didn't have an answer and suggested I call to file a claim. Does anyone know if there is a minimum amount of shingles that need to be missing before a new roof is in order? I don't want to jeopardize being canceled for missing shingles that may or may not be replaced just because I called about a claim. Any help is greatly appreciated.

**A: it is up to the insurance company.

If the shingels are only replaced or repaired then there is no reason to even claim the damage as it will probably result in a cancellation (don't you love HO Ins in FL). But, if by being damaged the roof needs to be replaced then it would be worth it. However, I can't afford to have the roof replaced and then hope the insurance company agrees to pay it. It looks like there is no set answer as to how much damage there needs to be before they will replace.

The storm had to damage the majority of the roof before the insurance company will repair the roof. It is usually about 80% or more. As was stated earlier, the replacement of 10 shingles is not likely to be higher than your deductible.
