What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA
I have a daughter who is tall and lanky. The principal induced dress code for shorts is that the shorts must be as long or long than the students fingertips while their arms are at their sides. My 13 year old, being 5'9" with long legs has been "dress coded" a few times because of this. My questions is: If two or more girls are wearing the exact pair of shorts, and because my daughters arms are longer they go past the ends of the shorts but the other girls arms are not as long for whatever reason....my daughter gets dress coded but the other does not....Is this some kind of discrimination?

Thank you in advance

Yes, it's discrimination against people with longer arms. However, people with long arms is not a protected class. Believe it or not, most forms of discrimination are absolutely completely 100% legal.

So, since you now know about the dress code, make sure your daughter is in compliance before she leaves the house in the morning.

No, it is not discrimination.

If you read the school's handbook and dress code policy, and it states "the shorts must be as long or long than the students fingertips while their arms are at their sides," then your daughter is out of luck.

Legally, there is nothing she can do but wear capri's, find longer shorts, or wear pants.

She will outgrow this phase soon, or graduate and not have to worry about it in college.

**A: why would it be? Simply special order pants and have them altered to comply.
