What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado

My boyfriend has been in jail for another offense. He was in between jobs in January and March therefore missed a couple of child support payments. He had started a new job in March but within a few months pulled his license which he needed for the job as a Cement Truck driver(CDL license). He will now be tranferred from one jail to the county in which he owes child support, they have him on a $5000 dollar bond(payable by inmate only) Is it possible for them to give him jail time? To me it doesn't make sense if they want him to be working and paying child support to keep him locked up. He did get a very good letter from employer stating they would love to keep him employed if he can get his license.

Looks like he has to pay the $5000 and shouldn't have gotten that far behind on his child support.

Something doesn't make sense here. He only missed a couple payments? But owes $5000?

Me thinks you don't have the full story.

I totally agree!

Just think, that's 3 months (Jan/Feb/March)....$1,666.67/mo....and on a cement truck drivers wages! I want that job!! :p

You might want to go read up on the CO Child Support Website and it MIGHT give you some insight to how it works when a parent is BEHIND and at what point they do can do something to a person for NON-PAYMENT of child support.

What does the bolded portion mean?

I've never heard of a bond that can only be paid by the inmate. Normally. a bond can be paid by anyone in the inmate's name. I don't know of any jail in this country that would allow an inmate to have anywhere near $5k in cash with them in jail.

Maybe there is a few things he aint telling me but I did see paycheck stubs where he was working in January and then didn't get another job untill March. I have also saw child support payments made all through 2007.
About the bond by inmate only, I saw it for myself online when looking up his charges so yes they do have a bond that can only be posted by inmate.

No, there aren't a few things he isn't telling you, there are more things he ISN'T telling you, than things he is. Since that is the case, we are unable to help you, because a cement truck driver does NOT pay $1600/mo in child support.

As for the bond, perhaps that means they require a cash bond only, as opposed to a bail bond being issued. In other words, instead of paying 10% to a bail bondsman and putting up some property, they want the whole $5K in cash.
