What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio
About a month ago I was the victim of a dog bite. The dog was on a leash, the owner on roller blades approaching me [running] and my son [riding his bike] on a city sidewalk. As I ran by the dog must have circled around the owner and bit me on the left buttocks. I stopped examined the wound to see it was bleeding. I exchanged info with him and asked him to mail me the dog's shot records. The next day I went to the health department and filed a report. I called back about 10 days later and they said they left two notices at the residence but haven't heard back from the owner. I gave him their cell number but he never returned the cal. I then went to the City prosecutor's office to file a formal complaint. ln the mean time the person called the health department and said they moved, that said they took the dog to the clinic and said his shots were up to date [same thing he told me] but either I or the health dpeartment has seen the dog to confirm it's still alive and not rabid. Which is the protocol they use. A week ago I sent the prosecutor photo's of my wounds and they took a statement from my son. They called to say they have all the documents to file and asked what I wanted to do.
Originally all I wanted was for the owner to follow through on their word to confirm the shots were current but seeing they haven't been forthcoming I'd like to be compensated. I never went to the doctor but I did spend some $$$ for 1st aid and it did rip a hole in a brand new pair of running shorts. In 35 years of running I've never been assualted by human or beast or have any dealings with an incident like this. Is it reasonable to ask to be compensated for my clothing, the time I took off work and medication I purchased? Thanks in advance
