From Macon, GA. Must a public University release statistics on their acceptance rates and criteria to the public if requested? I have been unable to find a link on the University's website, and would like to find out why my wife is having a difficult time when applying for a particular College's Nursing program.

What does it say under "Admissions" on the University's website.

Why does your wife's application come back rejected? Does she lack scores or GPA?

What do the Admissions officers say when you call? Surely they give some reason. What is it?

Amazing.... when I googled acceptance rate colleges +georgia, I came up with "about 263,000 English pages for acceptance rate colleges +georgia".

Gee, wasn't that hard at all.:rolleyes:

Humusluvr-

I have looked under admissions, but it just has basic requirements for admission to the university. I guess I wasn't specific enough. She is applying for a nursing program.

I do not know why it came back rejected. The rejection letters (Past 3) have just said that she didn't make it based on qualifications. If there was a specific reason, we do not know.

I have spoken directly to the dean in person and via email. Here is the exact email I received from the Dean:

"Admission is based on a compilation of the NET score and GPA. I don't know where your score fell in the list."

All I want to know is where she fell on the list. More specifically, I would like to see where she ranked based on NET and GPA. Her GPA is 3.9, and she already has nursing experience from a prior job. Additionally, she was accepted into a nursing program in the state we last lived in. Again, I would just like to find out how we can view the statistics of those accepted as far as their scores go.

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the lack of useful advice. 263,000 pages of acceptance rates are not going to help. You think I didn't do that already? Read above and see if you can google the answer to those questions, in particular, the university (Macon State University) and the program (Nursing) acceptance rates and specific statistics.

That's frustrating. I don't think they will release the info however. Did they ask about race in the application (just wondering)? It could be a case of Affirmative Action, or meeting quotas - depending.

True story. I applied for a teaching job. I have a Master's in Ed, and 8 years experience. The school didn't hire me, because (I believe) I was too smart :) But sometimes, you just don't know why you are rejected.

Really, what then is the acceptance rate for Macon State University's Nursing program? What? You can't find it? Yes, I see there is a GENERAL acceptance rate for the university, but not for nursing, nor are there specific criteria that I asked about in the post above.

YOUR EYES... Use them and read my post before typing... Thanks

Humuluvr-

Thanks for looking at my post and trying to help, I truly appreciate it. I was under the impression that I could ask the University for acceptance statistics for particular programs, especially since it is a state funded school.

I too have a MAEd.. I am looking to pursue a Doctorate so that I can teach at a 4 year college. I think I educated myself out of other jobs though. :)

Not knowing why is especially frustrating.

It's not broken down by school:

Selectivity (Undergraduate Only)
Acceptance Rate: 59% (Highly Selective)

Test Scores
SAT Scores: % of Students Submitting SAT Scores: 71%
Bottom 25th Percentile: Verbal: 400, Math: 390
Top 75th Percentile: Verbal: 520, Math: 510
ACT Scores: % of Students Submitting ACT Scores: 10%
Bottom 25th Percentile: Composite: 16, Verbal: 14, Math: 15
Top 75th Percentile: Composite: 19, Verbal: 20, Math: 19

As you can see, it is highly difficult to get into that school.

SeniorJudge,
I am not asking about the General acceptance rates. I am looking for more specific Nursing program acceptance rates. Heck, I am not even really wanting that. I wanted to know if they had to release how my wife ranked in regards to other NURSING APPLICANTS. She already attends their school and obviously has been accepted to the school.

What are you wanting to see? If she's smarter than the other students? I dont' think you are going to get the info you are looking for.

I know it's a competitive field, but what are you trying to accomplish if she's already in?

She is in the school, but not in the nursing program. She is pretty much stagnant now, as there are not other classes for her to take. (She should be a Jr.) I wanted to see what she needed to improve. I have a hard time that she is not being selected based on merit only. If that were the case, her ranking among other nursing student selects/non-selects should be released without issue. I think there is another side to the story. And I would like to find out what.

Does anyone know if a public, state college, needs to release particular program (Nursing) admission statistics? Is it public info?

So you are looking for a "magic number" at which they have to take her? Like "Who is the lowest studetn, and what scores do they have?"

I don't think they have to release that. Admission boards take all things into consideration, and it sounds like this program is competitive.

Can I say for certain? No. But I work for a publicly funded University, and I looked at our Nursing Program, and they didn't give out that info.

they just said that to increase your chance of getting in, you should retake the GRE, SAT, and ACT. And that GPA has to be above a 3.0

Good Luck.

Humusluvr,
Thanks! That was what I was looking for. There are no requirements for her to take the GRE, SAT, or ACT. They only take a NET.
