I got a round of applause by other attendees at a town council meeting when I expressed my displeasure at the proliferation of such hoops in our neighborhood.

The signs "Children at Play" to NOT give them license to do so in the street.

What I do resent is that though I will comply with the laws that require me to proceed at 25MPH in residential zones I do not wna to have to have to sweep widely around arrogant little piss-ants that glare at me or skulk sullenly & slowly out of the road when I come down the street.

Yhe roads are for ALL the people in your town/HOA to use appropriately and legally.
If you wish to provde a place for your children to play a given sport then construct the correct surface for them on which to play basketball on YOUR property.

Believe it or not, its is NOT all about "the children".
Nice example you are setting.
I keep kiddo's basketball hoop at the top of our driveway, out of view of the neighbors, and definately and safely, well out of the street.

Poster, the Association has the right to enforce any E&Rs they have. If you don't like E&Rs, you need to buy a single family home in an older subdivision without E&Rs.

I think you have missed the point. It has been allowed for over 2 years but the new board has interpreted this differently. If this was always the case I would never have put a basketball goal on my property. I was given permission and am now being told that it will no longer be allowed. I would also like to add that I have a very well landscaped and beautiful yard. I have received the best flower garden award 2 years in a row from our HOA- with the basketball goal in site.

I'm not complaining about the rules- I believe in them- however I do not feel it is fair to change their meaning to this degree just because that is how it is now interpretted.

Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year. I make an honest effort to scare the children. People who leave their Halloween decorations out all year long are annoying.

I'm glad I read this thread today, because I just finished writing a letter to my local PD regarding hoops blocking the right of way and parking spaces. Many of the owners of these pieces of junk use them exclusively to prevent anyone from parking in front of their homes so that they have a clear view of the street or whatever.

Is it a good idea to list the addresses of the offending hoops that I have cataloged in my letter? I have found 15, so far. My hope is that the chief will assign a parking enforcement cart to go around and put bright orange 72hr notices like the ones they put on abandoned cars.

My town has a law restricting obstructions to the right of way. It's 99 years old. I suspect that other places have similar laws that are older.
11.20.40 Illegal to place obstructing material on street or sidewalks. No person shall pile, deposit, or place any rubbish, dirt, wood, coal, merchandise or any impediment or obstruction upon or over any sidewalk or parts of streets used by pedestrians or passersby as sidewalks, nor shall obstruct any sidewalks or streets as to interfere with the convenient use of the same to any. (Ord. 19, Sec.7; June 8, 1909.)
