My information was leaked and now i have been directed to their lawyer... what to do?

I am n the middle of arguing with a certain company on the following matter:

My personal information was leaked to a yet unknown number of people a few weeks ago, we are talking my credit card information, address, drivers license, the name of my kids, my work email, home email, my full name, dob, etc, etc, etc... I was doing an account verification with Sony Online Entertainement to recover an account that had already been hacked into.

The service rep told me to enter a ticket with their online ticketing system and that the issue would be promptly resolved that way. 2 days later I get an email from a certtain individual noting that somehow he had been added to the cc field of the verification email sent in to notify me that tye ticket had been acknowledged and was being worked on.

I contacted the company and spoke with several people before I was directed to the general manager of customer relations, at first the issue was denied but when I went on and pasted logged replies to emails and conversations with customer reps I was directed to their legal department.

1. I want no money ouot of this issue
2. A simple community-wide acknowledgment of the matter would suffice
3. Do I need legal council for this ****? In my mind it is getting blown out waaaay out of proportion but then again

Im having to change my check card, keep a closer eye on my balance and transactions going through my account, etc, etc.... tbh it is a royal pain in the ass.

So, Do I need a freaking lawyer for this ****? should i just handle it myself or am i bringing a spoon to a gun fight? lol

Well that is part of my question... i mean is it a case worth pursuing?
Should i be looking for something else in return?

I mean updating my financial records is somethig that while it is a pain in the butt, it has to be done. I have never asked them for financial gain or compensation on this, but if i am being led to the legal department and there has been no community acknowledgment of the situation or glitch as they called it, I'm just not too comfortable talking to a lawyer without knowing what I am getting myself into.

The Customer service manager did offer me some in-game items, and asked me to contact him if i needed anything else... how ever I feel that in game items hold no value at all! Nor do they sufficiently satisfy me need of feeling like SOE took care of me like they should have!.

I mean... all of my info is out on the internet, god knows how many people have it. So.. is this something i need a lawyer to get into? can i ask the lawyer to see about getting something worked out with me over this?

Again I want no monetary gain out of this issue... hell maybe a community announcement and some in-game items (Of my choice)... and yes i am being serious. I really have no desire to "run them to the ground" over this because quite frankly i am unaware of the scope of this, how usual this is or if this is something that I should be extremely mad about.

Im just worried about talking to a lawyer and not knowing the real scope of the situation on this.

I think you are selling this short.

If you become the victim of identity theft due to the direct involvement of a Sony employee using Sony protected data, you need to cover yourself better.

Undoing id theft can be hugely expensive. I recommend that, right now, you use one of those companies that locks down your account and notifies you if anyone tries to obtain credit using your information.

Then find an attorney.

Im supposed to speak with one of their legal guys after 11am central time.
Should I simply talk to the guy and tell him that I will be calling a lawyer on this?

For the record, I am not talking about GAIN.

I am merely talking about Sony covering the costs you will incur to prevent and fight the theft of your identity.

HOWEVER, you may very well have some serious REAL LIFE impact based on this violation of your private information. Your recourse for that will, in all likelihood, be monetary.

It could be as simple as asking the company to pay for a years' worth of credit monitoring...but that's STILL monetary.

I guess that is where the GAIN came in.

my following question would be: should i get legal representation on this matter right now? or should i see if the lawyer agrees to such things as I have described?

the credit monitoring is covered as my wife and I have set that up some time ago, still I could be reimbursed, etc... right? would I be out of line asking for these items as in some form of reparation on the matter?
