What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Quick Question:
What does joint LEGAL custody mean and how does it relate to Primary Physical Custody?

Does it apply to time each parent has with the child or just concern decisions regarding the child's care?

Thanks!

Joint legal custody refers to making decisions regarding education, medical and daycare among other things for the child. The big two are educational and medical decisions.

That's what I thought. My ex thinks because we have joint legal custody, it is an automatic 50/50 time split.

Is she confused with joint PHYSICAL custody or is there no specific term when time shares are concerned?

Joint physical custody does NOT guarantee a 50/50 time split. The court order should spell out what time each of you have. There is no term that guarantees a 50/50 time split though some assume there is.
