What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ

Hello:
I have successfully closed on a condo in Somerset County, NJ in June of 2008. Everything went really smoothly and nice. A month down the road my attorney called me and asked for the copy of my driver's license in order to for the title company to make a new title. I still don't have a title, or is it a deed? Does it arrive later? i am the owner and would like to have the document to prove it. Thank you very much in advance

Houses don't have titles like cars.
There is a deed that grants the ownership interest from one party to another.
That is filed with the county land records office.

**A: you need to ask your attorney why did you not get legal title upon closing?

In some places a state transfer form must accompany the deed for recording. Any errors in the transfer form can result in the Register of Deeds office "kicking back" the documents for correction. Have you asked your attorney if the deed is now being recorded, and to provide you the recording data until you actually receive the recorded deed back? In some counties around here, the buyer will typically not receive their deed following recording, from the RODs, until about 4 to 6 weeks after delivery to the RODs office.
