My car was hit while it was parked. Luckily a nice person wrote down the License Plate and placed it on my windshield wiper.

What should I do?

Someone was backing out of a driveway and severly dented my driver side door. I would say it is significantly damaged enough that the offender can not say he didnt notice.

What should I do next?

It has been 6 months and police still have not contacting me back about this issue. I called the traffic division several times and each time they said a detective would contact me when they get around to my case.

This is LA.

Geico Insurance was unable to confirm if the other person had car insurance. I had the uninsured motorist coverage that would cover my car. However, Geico stated that this coverage does not apply because they are unable to confirm if the other party had insurance or not.

Should I use one of those car accident lawyer services?

If Geico has identified the other party, then file a lawsuit against them in small claims court. That should get their attention.

Geico wont give me their information.

Police won't give any information. ( The officer said maybe it wasnt the owner that was driving at the time?)

I was thinking of contacting the DMV maybe they could print out a report because insurance companies are required to keep the DMV updated about vehicle insurance status.

For a small fee you can have the DMV run the plate and you can get the registered owner's information.

Also, if the police wrote this as a traffic collision, then you have a right to acopy of the collision report per the CA Government Code. If it is an ongoing criminal investigation, then that might be grounds for them to withhold it, but it might be worth your time to stir the pot with a supervisor at the Traffic or Investigations Division - whoever has responsibility for the case.

Just take them to the court. You have every reason to sue them. It is all their fault, and you will get your insurance claim too.

OP doesn't know who the person IS, so he can't take them to court.
