What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

Hello, thanks for all the advice. I have a question about unemployment insurance. About 4 months ago I left my job in california to go see my girlfriend in Australia and to help her with some personal matters. Now, I am heading back home, and my old company has filled my position. I want to work and willing to work full time. I realize that in california one is usually not able to collect benefits when they have left their job.
Am I able to collect unemployment benefits while I look for another job? What advice do you have for when I talk to the EDD office concerning my circumstances? Specifly, are there any laws or rulings that pertain to my problem.

When the EDD contacts your old employer, they are going to say you left and were not fired or let go. That will almost always equal a denial in UI benefits.
