What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MD
Is there any restrictions that one knows of in trying to obtain a SCIF Clearance? Such as if you have your wife's parents residing in another country would that be grounds to not get your clearance? I am a natural born US Citizen and my wife became a US Citizen about 1.5 years back. I know that I should be able to obtain a TS Clearance, but some are saying that I would not be able to obtain a SCIF clearance and am wondering if anyone can point me to information that states the requirements to obtain a SCIF clearance besides the standard background and poly test?

I am new to this area and wanted to get more information.

Thanks.

There's no such thing as a "SCIF Clearance" A SCIF is a place (the F stands for facility). You're probably after TS/SCI. Once you get beyond a TS clearance, the rules are kind of dependent for which agency you are talking about.

The big issue is any relationship that would lead to bonds of affection with foreign nationals. While having foreign relatives is not an absolute bar, it's going to make them look closely.

Thanks for the information. You are correct, I meant SCI access. I guess I will have to see as my department said that there is a high probability that they would deny me for having foreign ties from previous people that have had their SCI access denied.

I think it kinda depends. If you're talking Canada... maybe you have a shot. If you're talking Iran... don't bother ;).

I had a few foreign friends (Iranian, Libyan, Australian, German) when I got my first clearance. They grilled me for the details on all of them, but issued the clearance. None of which I had a real close relationship with.
