It's too bad that CPS decided to place the child with a caregiver who didn't call the police IMMEDIATELY upon seeing the major bruising, etc.
If she had done that, the mom would have just left with the baby. She convinced the mom to take the baby to the hospital which got CPS involved. I think she handled it well.

Texas state law requires that suspected abuse be reported.

ETA: I am not saying that she should have made the mom sit there while she called the police...

I don't. As a daycare provider she is a mandated reporter. If she doesnt' want to be a mandated reporter she needs to stop being a daycare provider. If she is licensed, quite frankly the state should remove her license.

I also stayed on the phone with her when she left so I knew exactly where she was going. If I made her stay and she knew I was sending the cops to my house she would have taken off. She JUST moved so I do not have her current address. The mo really thought he feel out of the crib. The nurse that was over and myself really scared her into going to the hospital.

well here is a simi update. The boyfriend of the mother text her last night stating he does not remember what happened that night because he blacked out due to all the pills and booze. So she is taking that to the cops. The mother did tell CPS she smokes weed at her apt but only when the boy is asleep. Not that that makes a difference. I just dont see this coming to a end anytime soon. Also , I talked to CPS today and I am going to take him to a special doctor tomorrow that is for abused children and she wants the boy to stay in my care and not go with the grandmother. So thats were we are right now,

I think the actions taken were appropriate. The abuse was reported.

There was no threat of additional harm to the child other than progression of the inital injuries. OP did not witness abuse, nor is she a medical expert who can determine the cause of an injury. She can reasonable conclude it was the result of something other than a fall, so as a mandated reporter, she was obligated to report it--which she did.

The child was taken to the hospital, and OP took appropriate steps to call the hospital and CPS to report her suspicions of abuse--particularly timely to do so while child is enroute to the hospital.

Kudos to OP for handling the situation well.
