Referral Bonus

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ

I referred a candidate to a company ABC in NJ in 2007. I was promised a referral bonus for this candidate ( even though I was not on company ABC's payroll).
It has been 2 years and infinite attempts to remind the company's staffing manager, but to no avail. Am I legally entitled to this bonus at all? Is there any legal action I could take against this company?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

There wasnt a bonus agreement, only email conversations. would that help?

If there was no signed bonus agreement, then it would look to me like you just did company ABC a favor.

After two years, it seems pretty clear that they have no intention of paying you the referral bonus. Lousy but legal.
