Ok heres whats the situation is. I was editing a website for a guy and I was almost finished but I had to go so I gave the website to a person to finish and he put Google Adsense on the site to try and make some money for himself. I didnt put the stuff on his site and he says he is going to press federal charges for theft. Could he possibly have any case against me?

**A: he could have a case against you but not for the reason you stated.

It sounds like a breach of contract, perhaps, but how is he alleging you committed theft? Plus, theft tends to be a state charge, not a federal one. I don't see that the feds would give a rat's behind about a local theft case.

If you failed to fulfill your contract he can sue you, but prosecute for a crime? I don't see it ... maybe I'm missing something ...

What could he sue me for if I never signed any contract. Im kinda confused like on what grounds could he sue me and is there anything I can do? I just contacted google and my friend didnt put the stuff on his site because the ID numbers didnt match. Is there anything I can counter sue for?

**A: he could sue based on violation of the terms and conditions of the verbal contract, for screwing up his website and for putting ads to generate money that he does not get. I could tell you more but you would not understand the legalese.

**A: well, let me see, verbal agreement and breach of contract, misrepresentation, deceptive and unfair business practices.....oh, wait a minute, that's what claims the customer has against you.

The way to conduct a business operation is to have a contract in writing that spells out the obligations of both parties. That would help protect you from these sorts of problems.

You hurt him, he did not hurt you. Why do you think you have a claim against him?

Your "friend" can either be joined to any lawsuit on this where you are the plaintiff or you could sue for contribution. While you are still responsible for the damages which were the acutally and proximally caused by you, you can get back the amounts from your friend for what he did beyond your instructions.
