What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC
I have two questions about my current policy.. and I wanted to get a general feel before I call up my company and ask, they are small town and I personally know people there and don't want to come across badly.
My friend is about 20 years older than me and recently lost her home to foreclosure. She is staying with me until she can save enough to rent her own place. She bought a bucket of chicken and shut herself in her bedroom to eat. My dog smelled the smell and scratched under her door, causing a small throw-rug she had there to bunch. I noticed it and she also mentioned it. Later in the day I heard a sound and found she had fell (for the second time since moving in) and had tripped over the rug at her bedroom door, the rug that was bunched by my dog 5-6 hours earlier. I took her to the hospital after she complained with her arm and it was indeed broken. On the way home, maybe due to the morphine, she made a little joke, she said "lets sue your home owners and go on a cruise". I didn't laugh. Can she? Should she? She has insurance, she is disabled and has medicaid. Any advice?
And my second question.. My home is falling apart just 10 years after it was built. My porches are falling apart, my floor has sink spots and they are really bad in my bathroom (water damage + carpeted bath?). I fear a hole will surface anyday now.. The whole house needs to be re-floored. I can't figure why its falling apart, but I do live at the bottom of a mountain, I get a lot of "wash", water coming off the mountain, through my yard.. I wonder if that could have injured the foundation? Also, does homeowners even cover such things?
This is my first property and I am on disability. I don't really know what to do, who to ask, etc. I can't get around well enough to do the repairs myself.. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
