What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Various

I came across a chart at the ABA web-site showing which states allow third party, grandparent and step-parent visitation (there's not too much detail but it seems to be a pretty good general list). It appears to be current but I wondered if you wonderful people could take a peek and see whether this would be handy to bookmark?

That's a pretty good chart...it has some inaccuracies but all in all its better than any other compilation I have seen.

I would encourage anyone using it to use it as a starting point for research, rather than as a stand alone of its own. Its also very important to pay attention to the footnotes.

this is great, i wish you had found this earlier for me!...grrrrr....yes new york lets the freaking grandparents sue for visitation and/or custody without even having to show much standing or practically none at all....which is what im dealing with right now.

welll..letting someone sue is one thing. actually court ordering visitation is another.

i know, its just freaking annoying that a 3rd party can just come along and even try to sue without showing much cause, thats like you trying to sue me to see my kids!...

I wouldn't sue you - I'd just bribe the kids Far less expensive and probably more effective...

Ok let me take a stab. Say my wife & I seperate would my wife be able to get visitation with my daughters ..say if she wants them to be our son. Or because she has a relationship with them. I dont get the stepparent thing so Im curious.

Just an example im trying to figure it out.

She would fair better in the suit if she attempted a sibling visitation suit.

that's why knowledge is power. if some weirdo over the internet tried suing me, i'd have so much fun. because i KNOW better. it's why i've been enjoying my custody "battle". i know a hell of a lot more then when i filed that first petition.

Please bribe mine! My oldest is going to my mother's for the weekend and dd is going to her father for the weekend. That leaves the 2 yo. He's cute has big blue eyes and loves gummy worms. Offer him one and he's yours. DH and I deserve at least ONE night of freedom.

I'd love to, but Lil 'Un is at her daddy's girlfriend's stepmother's (I'm as confused as you are, trust me lol) house till Saturday morning and I just declared the house as a "no child" zone.

Except for the dog. She gets to stay. (but then she's not the one with the Level 5 Biohazard diapers, either....)

ok well chubby tubby, aka my 9 mth old...she likes food whether it be a bottle of formula or bananas...and my 7 yr old....hmmm just about anything she can use to paint and otherwise destroy clothing and the floor....lol... have fun with that....
