I was involved with an online coin auction. The coin was advertised as a "graded" coin with a value of $100,000. This amount was on the coin holder and in the description of the coin.

I won the coin auction. When it arrived, I sent the coin to a major Auction Gallery. I received an email stating the coin was not as advertised. In fact, the coin was only worth $100 to $250 in their opinion. I had that auction company send it to a professional grading company and they agreed with the auction house. I then took the coin to a local coin dealer and she graded the coin in the same manner as the others.

I filed a dispute with my credit card company and won. They posted the moeny back to my account and the person who sold me the coin could have 45 days to dispute the finding of the credit card company based on my submittal of proof.

I noticed a few days later that the exact same amount of money I paid for the coin was back on my credit card. I called the card company and they said that they did not put the charge back on and that it was the merchant based on the reference number for that charge.

In other words, my card company went after the salesperson to retrieve their money from his bank. He must have found out and charged my card again without my permission.

Is this legal?

No it is not legal. File a fraud claim with your CC company and ask them to change your card number.

Thank You

Thanks for your opinion. I called the credit card company and spoke with the dispute department. By the way, they sure have some "dorks" working in that department. He suggested I file another dispute as an unauthorized transaction on my card. I did that. I had to suggest the card number change.

I then called the local police department where this auction company is located. Their detective was out of the office and is going to call me Monday. I am going to file charges.

Thanks again.
