What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Kansas

I'm having trouble finding information on this, but maybe you all can help.

I'm 17 years old, and got caught up in a statutory rape situation when I was 16 early in the year. Long story short, her parents found out, and forced me to move to another town with other family members, otherwise she was going to press charges. Recently I started researching my situation again and read that the statute of limitations does not begin until I turn 18, so I could be charged until I am 23. Unless I become emancipated, which given the situation, my parents would be supporting in that decision. As a defendant, does anything change if I become emancipated? Can I be charged with the crime after I am legally an adult? Would this cause me to be charged as an adult?

Kid,

Are you a magnet for trouble or what. Straighten out or look forward to a life behind bars.

Yeah I could see where your coming from, seems how I did post 2 different problems. The other one is over, I just became curious after I registered for this site. That said, you've never had a girlfriend 2 years younger than you in high school or smoked pot? Get real, I came to this site for legal advice, not guidance.

Now, can you please offer me any legal expertise on my stated questions?

Nope. I have never had a girlfriend 2 years younger than me in high school.

Now I think about it I've never had a girlfriend 2 years younger than me - period.

As a general rule here you may want to lose the snotty attitude if you'd like assistance. But as I'm here anyway, here are your answers:

1. It depends.
2. Possibly, yes.
3. Perhaps.

(I'm actually not trying to be facetious - you gave very few details in your post. Practical advice: Speak with an attorney. And Wireless's advice is actually very valid - take note).

Thank you. I didn't have an attitude, I just stated that most people have dated somebody younger than them, and a lot of people have tried pot. So what I have done doesn't make me a bad person or a menace to society. I just came here for legal advice, I can make my own decisions otherwise. Even if they cause my problems.

I understand what you're saying - and more than a few folk on these boards would answer "yes" to both of those questions.

But it doesn't change the bottom line.
