What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ

Came to the US in 1997, got my green card in 2006. I'd like to help my bf who is here on a student visa, now doing OPT and will end on May 2010. He has been here since 2000 on many different visas. What are our options? Can I keep him in status by marrying him? Someone had told me that I could apply for citizenship being that I have been in the country for so long, is this true?

You have to have been a permanent resident (green card holder) for 5 years before you can apply for citizenship.

Marriage for an immigration benefit alone will not likely result in a green card.

Your boyfriend should locate an employer who would file for a guest worker visa.

He already has an immigrant petition pending from the company he is with right now. Unfortunately were from one of the countries where visas are back logged.

Then you just have to play the waiting game, like many others.
