What is the name of your state - Washington

The state of Washington is currently doing a child support modification that will increase the child support my children are receiving. I just received paperwork from them that includes the child support schedule/worksheets and some other forms that I am supposed to sign and send in to them within 20 days.

In our last order it stated that ex was to pay for 1/2 of childcare and we were to alternate the tax exemption for the children. The new paperwork does not say anything about childcare and where it is requesting what the new order shall be it states "Awarding a tax exemption for the children". It doesn't seem clear as to who it is being awarded to.

I would prefer to keep those two items the way they were in the previous order, are they automatically the same in the new order or do I need to make sure to re-address these two issues?

I don't want the tax exemption every year, as I don't think that would be fair...I also don't want the ex to get it every single year...

Suggestions???

Enclose a letter with the forms that you fill out asking that the daycare and tax exemption issues remain the same. That he pay for 1/2 of daycare and that you alternate the tax exemption. Inform them how much you are currently paying for daycare.

Thank you so much LdiJ...I will do that. I appreciate your answer!

Our previous child support order has us alternating the tax deduction for our children every year.

Our new order does not address this and I am going to submit a request to have these items stay the way they have been, however, now the kids Dad is requesting to have the deduction every year.

Is it standard that the party who pays child support get the tax deduction for the children EVERY year, or to alternate like we have been?

Thanks!

I absolutely would NOT agree to dad claiming EVERY year. The IRS will allow the parent with the majority of parenting time to claim the children unless the issue is addressed in a CO. You and dad both support the children, so there is no reason that he should get to claim them every year.

Alternating is much more standard. Its pretty rare for only one parent to be awared the tax exemptions for the children.

this sounds like my dilehma. My ex does not support my children but she has majority parenting time.
