I've raised pits, dobies, rotties, boxers and german shepherds.... I've trained 'protective dogs', MP dogs, counterfeit dogs, and a couple of drug dogs... and never NEVER have I been more surprised than after reading this statement. The attacks that you read about don't show the whole picture usually. This PUPPY hasn't done anything (that's she's said) and you arbitrarily judge according to breed.... that's bassackwards and incorrect. While there is some need to be careful, villifying innocent animals creates panic.Sorry, blah blah blah about everything else you said. You have a pit bull puppy (too young to have separated) and you apparently think it is just dandy that you have a potentially dangerous animal around your growing child. All you can think about is that you won't be controlled by dad and you are going to keep your dog...why don't you consider that he might have a valid concern?
I'm not saying he deserves father of the year. But you are showing extremely poor judgement by having that animal around a small child, especially one that will have socialization issues by being separated too young from his litter and mother.
Hopefully your child won't be one on the news...you know, that story on every so often, "Family pet rips off childs face...he never showed any signs of aggression, Mom claims". I think Dad has a valid concern.
I wouldn't have chosen a pit for protection, I would have chosen a rottie or a dobie. But that's me. I was bitten by a LABORADOR RETRIEVER when I was a child, my fathers best friend was killed by his Irish Setter.... I've found in my experience that its nurture over nature for the most part. Don't join the ranks of uneducated, panicky people about pits.... there's always more to the story.
There is no replacement for responsible ownership. Train the puppy, be watchful.... and consider others feeling about this breed.... it'll save you in the end....
