Legal age for lease in Michigan

I would like to know if someone can legally sign a lease to rent an apartment at the age of 17? And if someone did would the lease be valid?

The complex is stating because he did live there, in which he paid his rent while he lived there, but now wants out, they are saying that even though he signed the lease at 17, he moved in after he was 18 so that makes it a valid lease. he affirmed the contract by his actions. If he wanted to void the contract, he would have had to do so by not living within the contract after he turned 18 and disputed the validity.
