I'm confused. Why did they stop paying you to take care of the SO? The reason for asking the question is that it is possible that there may NOT be any aid if the OP goes to work.OK, the thing is, I'm not trying to get out of paying rent. My sig other is a paraplegic and I was getting paid to take care of him until the cutbacks in medicaid. Granted, there will be a drop in our rent if I am not working, but who will be home to take care of my sweetheart. Now we could have another aide come in, which he doesn't feel comfortable with. I could go back to work and our rent would raise. I think hiring an aide to come would cost the government more than me just staying home and taking care of him and our rent dropping. We have lived in our apartment for 4 years and have never missed a payment. We make do with what little money we have. I'm not trying to get out of paying my rent and I've worked for 25 years 40 hours a week, missed one day of work in those 25 years. Believe me, work does not scare me. Losing my sweetheart to a problem that may happen when I'm not there does.
Will Medicaid pick up the cost of the aid if the OP goes to work? will the SO be required to go to a nursing home if there is no one at home to care for the SO? From what I see here, it's not black and white.
Now, will the OP be even eligible for unemployment compensation if the OP was paid by Medicaid? She could file for unemployment and not even be able to claim any.
