hi everyone. i'm new here.. i just had a quick question.
i'd like to point out up front that i understand that i have no legal right whatsoever to the child in question.. i just want to know what might happen.

the child that i'm referring to is my baby cousin. who isn't much of a baby anymore.. but though out her whole life, i've played kind of a big sister / mentor role in her life. she's always come to me when she felt like she couldn't go to her parents and i've been a MAJOR part of her life since the day she was born. i have a very special relationship with this child who turned 17 years old in april.
i have a very close relationship with the child's mother.. my aunt..
i have an ok relationship with the child's father..

here's the question part of my post::
i was recently married and moved out of the country. i'm now living in ireland with my husband and haven't seen my little cousin in seven months.. since i went home for her birthday.. when i was there, i was showing her pictures of my new home and we were talking about how beautiful it is in ireland and she begged me to let her come visit over spring break.
of course i'd love to have her, but that isn't my decision.
it's her parents'..
at seventeen, her mother and i feel that she's old enough to fly over by herself, but if her father has an issue with it, i've offered to fly home and escort her myself..
i know that dad probably is going to have and equal say in this.. even though spring break is supposed to be my aunt's time.. (her parents live close to each other and she lives one week with one and the next week with the other, spring break falls on mom's week)..
i don't know how it's going to play out.. my aunt wants clear everything with her ex.. but if dad says no, my aunt says she's going to check into wheather or not she can legally still let little cuz come visit..
i'm just wondering does anyone know anything on this subject?
if dad says no.. could mom still let her come?

Who has legal custody? If it's joint legal, then if one parent says no, your niece isn't coming to visit.

i don't know 100% for sure..
it's probably joint legal though.. he's the kind of guy who would make sure that all his t's were crossed and his i's were dotted in the divorce.. y'know?
it's not for sure, he'll say no.. and even if he does.. she'll come next year when she's 18.. but i'd love to see her this spring!!
i'll be bummed if she can't come..

thanks for your quick response though!!

This isn't your matter to deal with. You should wait until your cousin is 18. Maybe Summer break is a better time for her to visit...

i know this isn't my matter to deal with.
in fact, i admitted that i have no legal right to the child in question.
i'm simply asking what might happen.
i'm not planning on flying back to the states and raising a ruckus if he says no.. and if he does say no, and her mom can't legally let her come anyway, then she will come in the summer after her 18th birthday.
heck.. she might come back in the summer even if she gets to come over spring break.
but the thing is, she and i share our birthday which falls at the end of spring break. and we've always spent it together. so even if he says no, i'll be going to the states to be with her because it's our tradition..
she wanted to turn 18 in ireland is all.. i'm thinking since it's her birthday and her dad will be taking her to new york city to go shopping the weekend before.. he might let her come because it's what she REALLY wants.. like i said, i don't know what's going to happen..
i was simply posing the question of 'what if...

Hang on a mo'...

If HBG would give an arm....

And if drinking too much is referred to as being "legless"...

If you take an arm, steveswifey, and I take an arm...HBG will be 'armless as well as legless!

I'm so shutting up now.
