I work for a cleaning company as an independent contractor. I am paid hourly have to stop at the office in the morning to get my schedule and any products needed for the day. I am only compensated from the time I arrive at the first job until I leave the last job. I do not get paid from the time I arrive at the office and travel to the first job. Nor am I compensated for having to drive back to the office after the last job of the day.
If an independent contractor has to stop at the office at the begining and end of a work day for whatever reason, do they have to be compensated for travel to and from the work site?
If I am supposed to be compensated, can you show me where on the DOL's or IRS's website it states that, please?

I assume I am considered an independent contractor only because my boss does not want to deal with taking out taxes and paying more to do so. From everything I have seen on the IRS's and DOL's website I am an employee. She controls everything (provides products used, people we work with, process and order on how things are to be cleaned, hours worked, training, etc.). When I mentioned to her that these websites state we are employees instead of contractors she said we are employee contractors. From my research these two things are the same.
How would I go about changing my status from contractor to employee?
