We live in Massachusetts, and I read that the Law says a student must attend school until the age of 16. My daughter and I have DCF involved because the high school called them back in May 09, due to poor attendance with my daughter. Shes going to be 16 in 2 weeks, and wants to quit. I want to sign the papers, and according to the law, I can do this because she will be 16, Right? I wasn't going to tell DCF that Im signing the papers, Im just going to do it. I dont trust them. I dont believe they can do anything if my daughter wants to leave school because of what the law says, Right? Also, we have cooperated fully with DCF for the last 7 months, and I have asked for our case to be closed in December when she will be 16. I dont know why they would have to keep it open anyway if there only involved because of her attendance? Is there anything I can file, or do if they wont close our case then? I still dont even know fully what my rights are in regard to DCF, and they can be manipulative. I want to know what Im talking about legally incase they try lying to me, which they have done in the past. So I can sign those papers in 2 weeks, and they really cant do anything because thats the law right? Please someone answer my question ASAP!!! (and no remarks about my daughter quitting school, you dont know our situation, and traditional school isnt for everyone.)

No worries about your daughter quitting school. In fact, I'm all for it. We need people who are qualified to flip burgers, clean offices, pick up garbage, you know jobs that don't require her to use too much of her brain.

One more perfectly uneducated American taking the jobs that usually only illegal aliens are willing to take is a good thing for the unemployment rate of this country.

Why am I getting the impression that this is not the parent, but the child posting here?

If DCF is in your lives and the case is open, look for them to KEEP IT OPEN TO FORCE THE CHILD to be in school. And if you don't want to do that, then look for them to try to take custody. Also quitting school is NOT the same as enrolling in an online school or other alternative program. SO which is it?
