What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Miami Fl
Why can't gay or lesbain couples adopt a child? If u really look at it if a female was to have a child her partner can sign the birth certified there is alot of fathers on birth certifieds that are not the child real biology father.

i'm almost sure a nurse is going to notice that the lesbian partner is NOT the father of the child. mother, female. father, MALE.

when birth certificates say Mother's name, and Second Mother's name, OR

Father's name and Second Father's name, then come back and complain.

want a change, you might want to look into being a lobbyist.:D

There are many states where same sex couples have no trouble adopting. Florida is a bad place for gay people to live.

Yes...laws that are often confusing...(and Seniors please correct the following if anything has changed recently...)

Mississippi allows gay, lesbian, and bisexual single parent adoption.

Utah permits single GLB adoption for singles only, but the rules on one adopting his or her same-sex partner’s child is vague.
Same for Virginia.

Adoption laws for GLB singles and couples in the State of Nebraska are vague. But the state does prohibit one from adopting his or her same-sex partner's child.

Pennsylvania allows single-parent gay adoption and second-parent adoption, but joint adoption rules are unclear.

Local government in Illinois allows single and couples GLB adoption, and second-parent adoption.

Michigan allows single GLB adoption. Second-parent adoption is allowed; but it's a court decision. Joint-adoption is not permitted here.

now, is this because gay mariage isn't legal in those states? so either adopt to married couples or single couples only? as opposed to a "straight" couple who isn't married?

because technically, it would be two SINGLE people they are adopting to. right?

It varies...
Florida doesn't allow any homosexual adoption at all.
Utah refuses adoption by any unmarried couple.
I believe Arkansas now prevents unmarried cohabitating couples (including same-sex partners) from adopting.

Hmmm...California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Vermont have laws that allow same-sex couples to adopt through a second parent adoption, or through stepparent adoption.

Some counties in different states, including Alabama, Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia, have been allowing second parent adoptions on a case-by case basis...it might be statewide in Nevada and Washington now, that same-sex couples in registered domestic partnerships can use the stepparent adoption.

(and again, Seniors please correct if I've gotten something wrong!)
