What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois
Is it considered wrongful death by suicide if a person who wanted to be a police officer commits suicide from fear of a record or arrest on a domestic violence case that had no merit. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Simple answer... no.

wrongful death
n. the death of a human being as the result of a wrongful act of another person. Such wrongful acts include: negligence (like careless driving), an intentional attack such as assault and/or battery, a death in the course of another crime, vehicular manslaughter, manslaughter or murder.

Wrongful death is the basis for a lawsuit (wrongful death action) against the party or parties who caused the death filed on behalf of the members of the family who have lost the company and support of the deceased. Thus, a child might be entitled to compensation for the personal loss of a father as well as the amount of financial support the child would have received from the now-dead parent while a minor, a wife would recover damages for loss of her husband's love and companionship and a lifetime of expected support, while a parent would be limited to damages for loss of companionship but not support. A lawsuit for wrongful death may be filed by the executor or administrator of the estate of the deceased or by the individual beneficiaries (family members).

Quote from OP's duplicate thread:

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois
My son, John, committed suicide on Nov 8th of this year. He was in a very bad relationship with his girlfriend of 8 years. I am still finding out more of the details that happened on that day, but what I know is that she went to the police at around 10 am and she apparently filed or would have filed a domesticate violence charge against him. He was a security guard and also wanted to be a police officer so this would have ruined his life. The police did state that she did not have any signs of violence. She did on 2 occations put a knife to his throat. The death certificate stated that the injury occured around 10 am but the death was at 11:46 which is strange for a gun to the head wound. He did try to call his friend at around 11 am, but he couldn't reach him. His girl friend stated that the police called him and she also said that the police took 45 minutes to arrive at their apartment. We are trying to get the police report and also the police recording but they are hesitant.
What can we do?What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Does not change your answers. The police will investigate and determine whether it was in fact a suicide and if that is what their investigation finds, then only one person is responsible for that (not the girlfriend).
