I have been divorced since 2002, in the divorce settlement spousal support was not ordered but was left open for potential future support. How does that work???? Can I still open up the issue, he makes more money then I do and is remarried. I am single and get no support from him whatsoever. Additionally, I pay for the medical coverage of both children which has increased and I am paying 20% now, which before was not having to out of pocket. Do I have any recourse in this matter??????

who has custody of the children? was child support ordered?

it was my understanding the only time to address the spousal support was at the time prior to the divorce.....after the divorce is signed and complete, spousal support no longer is applicable.

As far as the medical coverage, please check your child support court order and see what it says regarding who pays how much for what.

There is no child support we have 50/50 although we work out our own schedule most of the time. I don't have the papers in front of me for the exact wording on the spousal support. I have to review it

That is not correct. Spousal support can be a reserved issue.

then i understood wrong. unless it is ORDERED so. if it's ordered reserved, then it can be readdressed? if it is ordered at $0.00 then it's a closed issued?

it is extremely rare to see ss ordered at 0. It's ordered, reserved or the court terminates its jurisdiction to award. However, by statute, if this marriage was defined as long term, then the court reserves jurisdiction to award indefinitely. The OP never mentioned how long they were married.
