What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas I have full custody of my son and I was granted 200.00 a month for child support. He had only been paying every other month. He is self employed so it can't be drafted. I'm not sure what do do about getting him to pay it every month and what do I do about what he is behind? Our case is not at the attorney general.. It is still through the county. Should I file to recieve help with the attorney general? Can I ever recieve more than 200.00 a month? If so how do I do that?

That's ok. I have been lurking here long enough to know most seniors won't take the time to look back over everyone's history. They just don't have the time. IF you want the questions answered ask them all in one thread.

Filing with the AG's office is free, and as the state's IV-D agency will automatically review the case for income tax refund garnishment, FIDM liens, etc. You can also request modification thru the AG's office.

The downside - it's much slower than paying an attorney.

Just a newbie, but I filed through the AG office and gave them my paperwork around Oct. 11th (can't remember the exact date) and have the court date on Jan. 21st. The lady also said that if it is increased it is retroactive to the date I turned all the paperwork in. I am in a different state however, so not sure how your state is as far as how fast or slow it would be.

So then how exactly would thid be relevant or helpful?

Also - a little pet peeve of mine - per your posts you are in MD. The DHR handles child support in Maryland, NOT the OAG's office. So no, you didn't apply at the AG - not for cs anyway.

Just sharing my personal experience with the AG's office. I filed for child support through DHR, however, went through the AG's office for a modification in child support. Since the OP stated that her ex was ordered to pay $200 a month and wasn't paying regularly and wanted to know if she could ever get more than $200, I was letting her know that I went through the AG's office to deal with my ex and the child support issue (per the other post stating she may be able to go through the AG's office).

Well someone better alert Mr. Gansler, because frankly HE believes DHR is the IV-D agency for Maryland. And there can be only one such agency.

Besides which your experience in another state may well be completely irrelevant, as in this case.

I don't know the numbers for MD, but in TX, the average caseload for a cs enforcement officer is about 5,000 cases. Divide that by the less than 2,000 hours usually worked in a year to get an idea of the time available.

You have full custody of your child and yet alternate weeks with your ex? I am not buying that. You would need to go back through court.

Just giving my experience. You are right, TX and MD are to TOTALLY different states and statues and how things are done could and probably are done differently. However, just thought I would let her know that when I went through the AG's office for a modification, that the time span was only three months and it's retroactive to when I first filed for a modification.

Do we have a head banging the wall smiley here????

YOUR experience in a different state is of no relevance - at all.

And I guarantee you that you NEVER went through the MD Attorney General's office for your child support.
