What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Oregon

we just had a fire in our house that caused $50,000-60,000 damage (mostly smoke) to our belongings and house.

the insurance adjuster is coming on monday at 10 and i am worried that he might deny the claim when it is revealed that the smoke alarm was not operating at the time (no battery).

can Farmers Insurance Company of Oregon (Protector Plus Homeowners Policy) do that?

we were told to get two hotel rooms for our family (up to $150/room) but are afraid of the expense if the claim will be denied on monday.

A smoke alarm would not have prevented the fire and resulting damage. If there had been injuries, the story might be different.

Not necessarily depending on the source and strength of the fire and if anybody was home at the time and could have at least attempted to mitigate its spread.
