It seems you have a casual attitude towards the law. And, being a teenager, you're iconoclastic with sarcasm as a primary communication strategy. The two combined is trouble. The second brings focused attention to you from people who don't find the attitude anywhere near as humorous as you do. The first is something you are going to have to clean up in less than a year.

You see, when you're an "adult" (in quotes as I'm only talking about the age of majority), you don't get any more breaks. A casual attitude towards the law will lead to a night where you're telling the nice officer who just pulled your car over, "Just two beers." Then, when he asks you to step out you both notice the small bottle of Vicodin you just remembered you were holding for a friend.

After you deal with all that, you find you won't be able to get a grant or federally guaranteed loan for college. Then you find you're saying "Would you like fries with that?" about a million times a day for the rest of your life.

"I would never do that!" you're saying. But, breaking the rules gets easier each time you do it. The first time a person ditches school, the heart is pumping, you're looking around and you really think you're going to get caught. The next few times, you're careful. After that, you scream across campus, "Let's blow this place and grab a burger." to your buddy as you casually stroll off campus without another thought as to consequences if you get caught.

Same with drugs, with driving drunk or with any crime. The cops know this too because that's part of their job. They might be on your case because they care. They know your have a real possibility of making a choice which will change your life soon (if not already) and are pointing out the potential consequences in the only way it seems you will understand. Besides, if it doesn't work out and you make the wrong choice, at least they'll already have your fingerprints.

Excuse me?

I don't need to explain why drinking and driving is such a bad idea.

I really never would. The friends I have around me, I make sure they don't.

I don't need to hear about your theories about drinking and driving.

This attitude is why you're going to continue to get in trouble. You and our resident policeman are going to become good friends. I really hope you live in his area.....

Your behavior is all most people will know of you. That's how they define you. This is where you have a decision to make. You have a thin moment in time to decide your future. That moment is now.

=sullyer;2470457]? Every other weekend they give me the keys and access to all the money, so obviously I'm no moron in real life.
that doesn't really mean a whole lot. They might have cameras watching you and those almost assuredly have insurance the phone number for the local police.

I don't need my mommy to pay off my speeding ticket and whatever this smoking thing is. I can fix it. She doesn't need to worry. She can still yell at me, and she does, that's up to her.
do you whine and complain that it isn't your fault then too?

I don't mean to aggravate anyone. I'm just talking about something that pisses me off. Maybe that makes me go on and get out of line, like I say, it pisses me off.
first, you are pissed off because you got a legitimate ticket. Not a mature reaction unless the anger is pointed inward.

I'm not going to provide any job security to anyone in the future.
then you expect a huge change in your personal actions in the near future, right?

First I had a couple of beers and walked down the road, then I sped in a sober manner, then I smoked a cigarette.
and at your age, enough to get tossed in jail. A criminal record really does haunt you. You would be wise to make a very fast turn around.
. I'm not about to go drink-driving, that's for ****tards.
but you just inferred you had? That was the last time it will ever happen then?

I'm not really criminal of the month am I. I'm just having some trouble with some cops right now.
and it appears you keep painting a target on yourself and then bitching about it. Get smart, remove the target.

I got an attitude with a cop, yeah I realize that. You don't need to write me off completely.
not that I believe one should kow tow to a cop, I do realize that respect, even if false (as long as it doesn't show as such) can mean the difference between:

"just don't do it again"

and

"hands behind your back, you are going to jail"

.

cbg -yeap, ok. I know being a smart ass a couple of months ago started this whole thing.
but it has yet to change.

I'm not a ****ing moron. Quit calling me that.[
I do not support calling anybody a moron, generally, but it does appear to be accurate:

mo⋅ron  [mawr-on, mohr-] Show IPA
–noun
1. a person who is notably stupid or lacking in good judgment
.

ah, I remember 17.

When I knew more than everyone else and sunshine burst occasionally from my butt just because...

When all those laws were for other people and whenever I got caught it was because someone ELSE was being a butthead...

Ah...

Kid, I am the father of a 16 year old girl (and she is SO out of your league).

Anyhow, I read this to her. She said, "A bunch of kids are smoking by the door of a mall, one has got a skateboard and they are wondering why the cops approached them? Dad... they are being stupid in public and then blaming other people. Besides, people that smoke aren't cool... they just smell like cigarettes all the time and tell other people how cool they are."

Seeing as SilverPlum is a meanie won't trade kids with me, I figured I'll ask you...please consider exchanging your one 16 year old for my two adult SDs? It's a two-fer deal!

I'll throw in a double-wide! :)

(I'm just kidding. For the most part...you can tell which of us is the frustrated parent, right? ;) )

It's called reasoning by analogy. I didn't accuse you of drunk driving. I just used that as an example. The real thing may be you cutting down the tree in the city-parkway in front of your house, or a little lie on your tax return, possession of a little bit of steroids, or a few downloads of great music through the college server or any one of a number of crimes people who have a casual attitude towards the law commit.

Please save my post and re-read it at some future time.

Sorry... wouldn't trade my kids for love or money.

they are turning out great in spite of my involvement in their life... I don't think I can trust that to happen again.

You don't like being called a moron? Don't act like one.

I seriously suggest that you do a little thinking about the relationship between cause and effect. You don't like the cops messing with you? Don't give them a reason to and it will stop.

It really is that simple.
