OREGON - - - 17 year old girl is pregnant by a 19 year old boy, is he looking at any criminal charges? The big debate between the two is whether or not he should sign the birth certificate, he really wants to, but I'm If he were to get in trouble, aside from the hospital, who else is obligated to turn him in to the authorities? ANY advice would be appreciated......I need the bottom line, as well as the worst case scenario**************

Thanks!!!

age of consent in Oregon is 18. so, mom and dad of the girl can report it. a school official can report it. a social worker at the hospital can report it. the baby's doctor can report it. the gynocologist can report it. even the father of the 19 year old can report their own adult child.

really? worse case scenario? depends on how you look at it. in this case? nothing could happen and the 19 year old does it again, and to a much younger child.

oh wait, worse for the 19 year old you mean! not society.

well, registering as a sex offender for life. jail time. fines, probation. people picketing your residence because they found out a sex offender lives next door. the picking of smart intelligent women who do background checks on prospective dating men will disregard him. he'll be stuck with dumb and gullible women who buy into his version. and paying child support for a child he may not even see.

How dare you! First off, read the question again...17 year old girl, 19 year old boy in THIS question, when i poured my heart and soul out on this forum almost a year ago, it was a 17 year old boy (my son), and a 19 year old girl! the current question is NOT regarding my child! Its regarding a my daughters best friend, and her boyfriend. You have no idea how hurtful you guys are on here! I understand the situation between the two kids is not right, I'm the first to agree! but you have already passed judgement on me, so it doesn't really matter what i write from here on out**************.....

And this is your response to a genuine question?!

Get your daughter's best friend's Mom to come and register and ask her questions. This has NOTHING to do with you. At all.

(and THAT is how "I dare")

must be a good feeling to be as mighty as you! mom is a crack head in texas, and dad is on his death bed with hep C**************..... your rebuttal???? What is wrong with me coming here, asking a genuine question, so I can explain to these kids the possible repercussions of their actions without ME being attacked????

Oh good heavens look, this is NOT an Amateur Dramatics production.

The fact is, you are NOT legally involved in this particular situation. Thus, you should realize that you need to perhaps take a step back.

If this child (in question) is without a competent parent, why haven't you called CPS?

not going to render a response to that.....

Where is Carl? He gives his advice from a legal standpoint, doesn't sugar coat it, but doesn't belittle OP either! A perfect stranger gave me strength to get through what is still to this day, the worst situation I have ever been through.....Thanks Carl!

I'm thinking this post (if answered soundly) could possibly help teens seeking help, maybe by just surfing the web, the advice they may need to make a good or a bad decision, I really think this forum can and does help a lot of people......so therefore, I will not continue with negative comments, or respond to banter......

If you really need to have the last word, you go right ahead. If that's your priority, so be it.

In the meantime, and for everyone else reading, if there is a child without a competent parent, or who is otherwise at risk: CALL CPS OR 911.

It's that simple.

If the girl's parents are not around to press charges against the guy, I'm thinking not much would happen to him.

IMO? These two are pretty much peers, not an adult taking advantage of a child. I see no reason to prosecute something like this. I understand the law has to draw a line somewhere, but there has to be some common sense in enforcement.

Thank you SO much for your opinion. I do happen to agree with you. BUT, I live in the same county as the butt slapping incident. It made national news, those 2 12 year old boys, slapped those girls on the butt, and the DA went after them to put them in jail, and make them be registered sex offenders for life. Finally after so much media coverage, they dropped the charges against those boys. I guess we will have to wait and see in this situation. At this point the two have decided against the dad signing the birth certificate. (KIDS these days, WHY can't they just listen to us adults!!!)

Again, thank you for your response!
