What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? FL.
My mother was being sued by my former stepsister over a home (in FL) my mother owned with my former stepfather, who has since passed away.
My mother lives in another state and hired a lawyer in FL to represent her.
He assured her she had nothing to worry about and my mother paid him a lot of money. He was supposed to obtain a key and send it to her.
One day he was at the property and encountered my former stepsister.
Apparently, he was quite taken with her, as he told my mother she's "a nice girl".
He also advised my mother to sell the property for much less than it's worth, split the money with my former stepsister, then pay her (stepsister's) legal fees.
However, the court date is off.
So far no key has been sent and my mother's lawyer will not return her phone calls.
Admittedly, my sister called and read him the riot act.
This question isn't about who owns the property, it's about a lawyer who fails his client because the plaintiff is "a nice girl".
