What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? WA

In a couple one is earning less than 8k and other is earning more than 44k
This couple is married filing jointly.
The one who is earning less than 8k filed for FAFSA but declined because EFC is more than 12k so my question is if they decide to file separately instead of jointly will that help getting the FAFSA in other words how much will be AGI (adjusted gross income)

may be you did not read what I asked....I asked if they file as married file separately will that help getting FAFSA to the lower earning member?

they will need to still submit their spouse's taxes. if the spouse lives in the home that income must be reported.

Will the amount the student gets from his FAFSA be better or worse, depending on if the couple filed taxes married jointly or married separate?
