What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Hi my parents are Georgia residents and they are elderly. My mother returned from shopping one day and discovered her roof had collapsed. Thsy have very fixed incomes, however they've been paying insurance for years and they only owe 30K on thier home. What obligation does the insurance company have to repair their roof?

roof collapse

Thank you for your reply!

My mother and father both live 200 yds from the coast and in late January they experienced really rough winds that caused an old roof to collapse.

well, if it is determined that the roof failed due to neglect, the insurance company most likely will not pay anything. If it is truly the wind issue, it would be treated like other acts of God such a tree limb falling on a house.

You will have to speak to the insurance company to have them investigate the claim to determine if it is covered or not.

**A: it really depends upon the type of coverage Mom has and the exclusions.

"Late" January was 3 weeks ago. Surely the insurance company has already responded to your parents claim. In what year was the roof replaced? What has the insurance company already told your parents? There's a lot of information you or your parents already have, but haven't told us. You need to provide the rest of the story in order to receive better responses.
