What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia

My appologies if something sililar was already posted. Tried to do a search and came up with nothing.

But I recieved a letter from what appears to be a collection agency claiming they are collecting a judgement on behalf of Palisades Acquisitions XVI in the amount of $5,400. I have never heard of the collection company, original company, or the debt and currently in the process of sending a debt verification letter.

My question is...If this Palisades Acquisitions company (who I found out was a collection agency themselves) was awarded a judgement, why would they go through another agency? (Unless they are lying and trying to scare me into paying them).

And also, what are my rights in this matter?

Have you checked your credit reports for the judgment?
