The Judge gave my minor son C.S ???

Hello everybody and thank you all in advance.

My son recently got a $73.00 citation for loitering. Well we went to court and before the proceedings began the bailiff made an announcement stating that only the juvenile offender was to approach the judge??? Well they called his birthdate and initials he went up and a whole 30 seconds later it was over and we were on our way. I asked "well what did she say"? He said "she said that I have to sign up for community service and it wont be on my record" "well that was nice of her" I replied. Well we signed up and all that to find out that its a big runaround. First off he don't have a car and needs a ride to and fro secondly its in one of the worst neighborhoods in the city so taking the bus there and back is out of the question finally he would be around drug addicts alcoholics and complete low lives. So my question is can I just pay the fine? And why weren't the parents allowed to accompany their minor children?

Sorry that his community service isn't in the 90210 of your state, but this is a fantastic lesson for your child to learn. Spending time with crooks, criminals and addicts will help help to learn what life will hold for him, if he continues to break the law.

Community service is SUPPOSED to suck. Did you think he would be pulling the coins out of a mall fountain somewhere?

You do not get to second guess the judge. If just paying a fine were an option, the judge would have said so. Since he did not, no, you cannot just pay a fine.

He gets to serve the sentence the judge gave him. That's the way it works.

The court had no legal obligation to invite you to be part of the conversation or to give you a say in what happened.

You can always hire an attorney and oppose the plea deal. Your son can always spend time in custody with more serious low lifes.

He wilol likely be supervised where they are doing the community service.Perhaps if he sees how the "other half" lives, he will find renewed determination not to continue on a path that might lead him to such a life.

IF you did read the post, it was a loitering ticket. Him and his friends were sitting in front of their friends house (in a car) waiting for him to get his butt outa the shower. When big time officer "I aint got nuthin better to do and dont wanna confront real criminals" O'Malley comes strolling along and decides he's gonna keep the city safe and give four A-B high school students a ticket for "waiting".
Oh ya I forgot to mention it was the last week of the month and of course he diddent have his "quota" so he seen $$$ signs in the teenagers car and attire and got a stiffe. And people wonder why black kids run from the cops. Oh ya I diddent think I had to mention two black and 1 hispanic teens were the perpetrators in this white neighborhood. THATS WHY THE TICKETS WERE ISSUED. These teen are model citizens from family orientated homes two out of the three are honor roll students. You think you know something you know nothing. Yes this will teach these young men a very very valuable lesson...run when you see the police because their not your friends.
Maybe you should think before you speak your smart ass comments.

I could care less what race the kids are. The point is he was issued a citation for doing something wrong and now he is being held accountable.

I know all I needed to know in this case: the boy has community service to do and his mother or father is behaving arrogantly and pulling the race card.

The ticket was issued due to the violation.
Here is OPTION B go back and explain this to the Judge-although I would not phrase it exactly like you just did. Before doing so watch a few films like "American Me" or even "Midnight Express" although they do not deal with juvenile environments similar situations apply-even for honor roll students with an attitude.

I got a traffic citation a few years ago for an improper lane change I couldn't afford to pay. They ordered me to do community service at Salvation Army instead, with felons and recovering addicts and the like.

It changed my life. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. I turned my life around after that, because not only did I see the terrible things that I could go through, but I also saw how persistent and dedicated and determined some of those felons and recovering addicts were to change their lives; how they smiled even though they'd seen awful things in prison, how they truly felt that through community service they were giving back to the community, and were rewarded spiritually for it.

I'm 4'11, white, a woman, and this was in a terribad section of Atlanta. I had NO family, no one to hold my hand the first time I went in. I'm originally from the country of upstate NY, and I was young, dumb, and terrified. And you know what? I am so grateful that I had that opportunity. God only knows where I'd be without it. I met some truly wonderful people doing it. I heard some truly awful stories. And it made me think and reassess things.

So tell your son to suck it up. Stop fighting his battles for it, and allow him to find out the opportunity that it is for himself.
