What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MICHIGAN

Hello,

In Michigan, how old must a child be before they can legally be left home alone for a short duration? By short duration meaning up to 3 hours.

Thank you for your time. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Since there appears to be no statute covering this, the answer may well be: "As long as the child is not injured and there is no reasonable belief the child might be harmed by being left alone, then it is okay."

However, such a thing can be very subjective. Leaving a 3-year-old home alone for 3 hours is a lot different than leaving a 10-year-old home alone. And, even if 10 or older, if something happens to that child, charges could be pursued. And if you have a 13-year-old that likes to light fires, leaving him home alone is never a good idea, either.

So, you can gamble, or get a sitter, or take the child with you.
