What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida
5 days prior to graduation, a investigation for some petty vandalism prompted the school to bring in a polygraph testing service. My 17 year old son was implicated and he was told that unless he submitted to a polygraph, he would be expelled. They told him that the enrollment forms for the school included a parental consent to polygraph. He complied to the testing and passed. His name came up again at the questioning of other kids, but by then, the questioning had evolved to marijuana use and sales. When called back and confronted with this, he chose to admit to use off school grounds (he is a boarding student), but not selling. He was not expelled, but put on a punishment work detail and not allowed to walk with his class.
I am not sure that this is the proper place to post, as no criminal charges were even entertained, but I feel very uncomfortable with the net casting approach to the polygraphing, and I do not concede that I had signed any form of consent knowingly. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'd go to the school to see the original. But then... I wouldn't ship my kid off to boarding school. JMO

Thanks for your interesting opinions on schooling. but my area of concern is not regarding that, but rather about my son and his present circumstances.
The comment to get a copy of the consent form is a producive one. What about the legality of giving a polygraph to a minor without one...as I think I did avoid signing one as I do not condone or approve of using them, espesially on me or my family!

Sure, because things are going so very, very well as a result of your parenting decisions.

You don't seem shocked, appalled, or screaming mad about his drug use. Oh, that's right <wink> <wink> it's just marijuana. The entry drug of choice.
