What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey

My 15 year old son is being investigated for robbery. When questioned by the police yesterday they told him that if he is charged and found guilty there is a mandatory youth house sentence. Does anybody know what the minimum required stay for robbery is for a minor? Also, my son has two previous marijuana charges on his record and is still on probation.

And if it matters ,
The robbery was basically him and friends setting up a kid trying to buy a bag of weed. The kid (same age) came up to them and they said give me everything in your pockets and then started punching him. It ended up with the kid on the ground and a knife in one of the attackers legs. No serious injuries to either and both kids were in school the next day.

EDIT:
By the way, Personally I don't think this is that big of a deal because the kid was trying to buy drugs but the police are spending a LOT of time investigating this because there was a knife involved. I could tell by the way there were acting that this case is stressing them out.

You don't think it's a big deal that your 15yo is escalating his criminal behavior? Wow. I think the best thing that could happen for the boy is that he get some serious consequences from the state.

But he does need a lawyer.

This will essentially be considered a crime of extreme violence involving serious injury, weapons, and illegal drugs continuing a pattern of illegal drug use. You can anticipate a harsh judicial response at sentencing if it proceeds under those terms. You should get legal advise and no more interviews until you get it. This is a very very serious matter in the eyes of the court.. it will not be minimized to "jumping a kid for some weed and a kid was kinda accidently stabbed".. it doesnt work that way. The cops, regardless of what they are saying or threatening you with, are not your friend. You need a lawyer.
