Hello my name is Loreyda. I am from New York but I recently purchased a puppy over the internet from Missouri. The dog breeder seems to be very respectable and had a lot of positive feedback so I decided to purchase this puppy. The puppy was then shipped to the nearest airport where I pick him up. When I got him, he seemed to be in a healthy condition however; about a week later the puppy began to get sick. I took him to the vet but the doctors did not had a diagnostic of what was causing the dogs health problems. His health deteriorated to the point that the doctors recommended to put him to sleep, so we did so. During the whole period of his health problem, I spent over 2000 dollars and bought the dog for 690 dollars. The policies of the seller were as follow:
We work very hard to produce happy, healthy, well socialized puppies so you can be comfortable knowing you will have a loving pet for your family. All our puppies receive vaccinations, deworming, and any other veterinary care on schedule with proper documentation. All our puppies come with a written health guarantee.
We guarantee our puppies to be free from any life threatning, non-treatable communicable disease at time of purchase and we allow 3 days for the buyer to have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian. You may receive a replacement puppy if there is any life threatening, non-treatable communicable disease diagnosed by the Veterinarian at that time or if puppy dies from any communicable disease within 3 days of purchase as determined by an autopsy performed by a licensed Veterinarian. The puppy (or autopsy results from your Veterinarian) may be returned immediately to Teras Pups To Pals where you may exchange for puppy of equal or lesser value. If no puppy is available, we will replace as soon as one becomes available, no cash refunds.
Any shipping costs will be paid by purchaser. Teras Pups To Pals will not be responsible for any Veterinary costs incurred after purchase of any puppy. Please understand we make no claim or guarantee as to the disposition, size, color, compatibility, physical conformation, or breeding ability of any puppy at maturity. Our puppies sole purpose is as a household pet. Policies

In addition, The puppy came with an AKC registration paper and a health certificate however he was not vaccinated and she stated that all puppies were to receive vaccinations and deworming as stated in the policies above. My doctor stated that most likely the dog came from a puppy mill, which explains why someone will ship a dog without proper vaccinations. The dog died and the doctors couldn’t find what was causing the problem, however he show symptoms of pneumonia, anemia and the common cold, he also had neurological symptoms. Anyway, I will like to know if there is any possible way that I can get a refund, the vets cost or maybe a new puppy, since he died a month after he purchased him. I am not quite familiar with Missouri animal laws but in New York the buyer is entitled to compensation. Is there anything worth considering here?

If my memory serves me correctly Missouri is one of the puppy mill capitals of the world.

How long after you got the puppy did you first take him to the vet?

The puppy was taken to the vet a week after she received it.

Your problem is that you've never gotten an accurate diagnosis of what the puppy had. And technically, he didn't die; you had him euthanized on the recommendation of the vet. I'm assuming you didn't have a necropsy done after this to determine the cause of the death.

And just as an aside...with all the (literally) millions of healthy puppies, kittens, dogs and cat being euthanized in shelters every year due to over population, why would anyone spend almost $700 to purchase a puppy and pay the cost of having it shipped across the nation?

Have you actually contacted the breeder? I have to agree with Gail, there are TONS of Huskey's and countless other dogs that need homes through absolutely no fault of their own, and being put down b/c people want "designer" dogs, and keep puppy mills/breeders in business. I'll buy a puppy from a breeder the day the last shelter closes its' doors b/c they've run out of unwanted animals.
