I am 17 years old, i live in Tennesse. & i would like to go live in Alabama with my mother & she doesn't have money to take my dad 2 court. So how do i go about getting emancipted? or do i have to so i can live with my mom?

Emancipation is for kids who (unless they are Miley Cyrus or Macauley Culkin) through no fault of their own - for example, parents died in a plane crash - need the legal ability to sign a lease, get the utilities switched over, perhaps organize medical care for themselves and siblings.

It's not for kids who are sick of where they're living.

In your situation though, it's really moot. By the time it ever got to court - should Mom file for custody and/or you filed to become emancipated (which is out of the question) - you'd already be 18 and able to decide where you wish to live.

Good luck.

Oh - one more thing. TN does not have a statute allowing for emancipation of a minor.
