CP Bribery. Not a legal question, just need some advice.

LOVE that mantra...use it in my kindergarten classroom.

His T-ball coach is also our school superintendent. That's where it came from - regarding the color of popsicles available after practice.

I love it though. Except when I'M complaining because they're out of Minute Maid Light Lemonade at the grocery store and he tosses it at me.

Popsicle color is exactly the type of thing I use it for.

Another one of my favorites, when they gripe about not liking a snack or treat being provided, is "You have two choices.....eat it, or don't eat it!"

CJane, kittens are pretty much litter box trained when you get them. They take to it WAY early... (that's why they're SO much easier than puppies).

I had this problem last year with my then 13 yr old dd last year. She committed to being a Jr. Counselor at camp & was gone during the week & home on the weekend, every other week. She brought home her kitten from the barn (where she rides, where summer camp is) and then decided she wanted to stay home with her kitten.

I just told her that her kitten would be there when she got back, and that she had made a commitment to work and she has a responsibility to follow through on it.

She brought one home again this year, then left him for me to take care of. lol

I was SO proud of her though -- She's a full-on counselor this year, no more Jr. anything, and working 3 weeks, then off one. On the way back to camp Sunday, she was complaining about one of the other counselors who tends to blow them all off when something else comes up. She said "You know, mom, we made a committment to work and we have a responsibility to follow through, and it's just so wrong that she doesn't show up."

Two cats and a dog here already, don't think we need any more pets. Don't get me wrong, we love getting her stuff and taking her places, too... but we just wait til she's here to tell her about it.

They spend their first several weeks with me practically living in the bath tub so when they choose not to use the litterbox, I don't get surprises. And then they learn to go outside just like a dog. Cats are the only animals on the planet that are rewarded for making a conscious decision to crap inside the house.

Yeah, personally, I'd take a dog over a cat Any day myself... We had a housetrained cat when we were growing up - but he was an outside cat who came inside when he got old and he always thought he was one of the dogs anyway, so he just scratched at the door like they did.

I told dd she had to keep the litter box clean - that was a condition of getting a cat - then she got these kittens and just left me to take care of them.... So I've been cleaning out the big cats' box, and the baby's little litter box all week. Yuck! No fair!

At one time (thanks to my ex) we had 2 ****ers, 3 chihuhuas, 8 cats, 2 rabbits, a hamster who had babies (yes, the pet store sold us a PREGNANT hamster without telling us), and 3 parakeets.

When the baby duck, goose, and chicken came home for Easter, I revolted.

Our herd has decreased pretty significantly. No more horses, no more chickens, ducks or geese. No more rats or hamsters or fire-belly toads.

We're down to 2 cats, one of whom has OCD and has to take Elavil every day, 2 dogs, a turtle, and two tanks of fish.

I'm sure ex thinks I buy/adopt/whatever all of them to bribe the kids. But since I buy all the food/filters/meds/etc, and do the majority of the cleaning/training/grooming, I kind of wonder how stupid he thinks I am.

LOL I know that feeling. And actually, our newest hound is the one that HE got for our daughter, and then relinquished to a shelter. Bribery on my part to rescue him? Not at all - my teaching our child that an animal is a responsibility one takes seriously.
